Rare and Extraordinary Windsor Comb Back Armchair

Rare and Extraordinary Windsor Comb Back Armchair

With Shaped Crest and Horseshoe Armbow above Triangular
Fronted Saddled Seat
Rich Honey Coloured Elm and Beechwood
English, probably Buckinghamshire, c.1800

40.5" high x 25.5" wide x 22" deep

A most unusual example of a traditional vernacular comb back Windsor armchair, with shaped crest rail, above a spindle back and well-drawn "horseshoe" arm bow all above a most unusual elongated and well saddled seat with a triangular profile to the front. Probably designed and made as a corner chair. Of generous scale and excellent quality, this chair is in genuine original condition, with a good honest surface patina and age-related scuffs and scars. An interesting and sculptural survivor.
