A rare and well drawn example of exceptional diminutive proportions, the slender top above two end drawers, raised on elegant cabriole legs terminating in pad feet. When closed, with drop leaf down it makes a perfect side or console table, with the advantage of opening up to serve as a writing, drinks or tea table. Fashioned from fine nutty coloured elm, the top and drop-leaf are each made from single planks and the surface is crawling with character. The top has various scratch carved initials and markings and re-entrant corners, and the two end drawers retain their original knob handles. Elegant, practical, fully functional, and simply charming, this rare example comes from a significant private collection of vernacular furniture and is a wonderful accent piece which can serve multiple functions and uses little space.
