Solid Nutty Coloured and Gently Patinated Oak
English, Lake District, c.1780
Provenance: English Private Collection, London.
83" high x 68" wide x 21" deep
A most unusual and beautifully proportioned, two piece, Georgian vernacular enclosed dresser, with twin opening fielded panel doors to the upper section, flanking a central fixed, twin panel section, with similar but broader panels, all framed by a classic cornice with scroll decorated frieze and flanked by fluted and reeded columns. Typical of the vernacular style of Lake District Dressers, there are three small drawers above the waist high surface, below which are three frieze drawers, above twin shaped and arched panelled doors which flank two further drawers, which in turn are enclosed by two curved, fluted, and reeded columns. Enclosed dressers of this type and these delightfully slender proportions are very rare.
