A fine and impressive example, this "bonnet top" Marriage Cupboard retains the original painted surface, decorating an unusually fine architecturally detailed carcass. The moulded and geometrically angled cornice sits above broad carved dentil detailing with twin, double panelled doors below, flanked and separated by tapering architectural columns, with finely carved giltwood capitals. The cupboard retains its original plinth base and tapered feet. The field colour of pale duck egg blue is decorated with carved floral paterae and applied mouldings and is well hand painted with swags and floral garlands, with the carved and moulded elements picked out in a joyful red and ochre colours. The interior houses two later shelves for functional purposes. It is in genuine original condition, with scars an bruises commensurate with its age and function and bearing the date of the wedding it was commissioned for or "1820".
