Pole Lathe Turned Solid Fruitwood With Excellent Original Surface and Colour British, c.1670
38.5" high x 22" wide x 16.25" deep (Seat Height 16.5" high)
Provenance: The Derek and Sally Green Collection
A rare and finely constructed Turner's Chair in solid fruitwood, of exceptional original form and detail. Each individually pole lathe turned element is socketed into another to create this "tour de force" example of the Wood Turner's art. The solid fruitwood has developed a rich nutty colour and has a well burnished surface. Directly from a significant English Private Collection, this is an exceptional example in fine original condition, commensurate with its age and function. A particularly refined and unusual early example, with twin rows of spindles between the double box stretchers on three sides and finely detailed turned "spire" finials to the uprights and bold ball finials to the armrests.
