Comparative Literature: James Ayres, "British Folk Art"; Pub, Barrie & Jenkins, 1977. A Similar example is illustrated and described on page 56
Fully articulated at all joints and surmounted by a Bowler style hat, this engagingly sculptural child's jig toy is in genuine, "as found", time and play-worn condition. The historic painted surface is worn and rubbed in places and has suffered areas of loss, including particularly to the back side of the hat rim and front of the left boot. An honest survivor with integrity and the nostalgic playful aura of historic childhoods.
