reitbhign Harbour lies a few miles North West of Stornoway and has in recent years received significant European funding for enlargement and upgrading. The harbour itself is protected by a pier from the south and east but is still notoriously tricky to enter. Despite this it is in constant use and with its proximity to Stornoway and direct access to the northern half of the Minch, it used by professional fishing boats. The lower half of the image is filled with a bird’s eye view of the port which then blends into a more realistic view along the coast to the villages of Col and Tong as well as the central hills of Lewis. The geometric form has imposed itself forcefully on the coastline but remains remarkably hidden even from my friend’s house two hundred yards up the road.
