Beguiling English Naive School Portrait

Reputedly of Eleanor Wallace Straker
Depicted in a Blue Dress with Puff Sleeves, Beneath a Leafy Bower
Oils on Canvas , Attributed to Jane Thompson, c.1830

Signed and inscribed to verso "Portrait of Eleanor Wallace Straker" (Born 7th July 1801)

12.75" high x 11.5" wide (framed)

A delightful, jewel like small scale naive portrait of a young lady with white lace collar and a blue dress with puff sleeves. The sitter, believed to be Eleanor Wallace Straker, is romantically depicted before a sinuous tree trunk and branches, beneath a canopy of verdant green foliage. Her golden hair is curled in ringlets and a bun, and she is wearing a long golden necklace and holds a small red covered book. The work is painted in oils on canvas and is in fine original condition. This is a poignant naive family portrait, sensitively executed, with a hint of romanticism, with an immediately appealing sitter and composition.
