A Fine Small Nest of Thirty Two Apothecary Drawers

With Original Painted Labels
Well Patinated Solid Mahogany and Pine

English c. 1830

27.5” high x 37.5” wide x 9” deep

Ref: 30/47

A particularly fine example of a nest of working drawers which would originally have been made as fitments for a working Apothecary’s Shop. This historic period fitment benefits from unusually good scale and proportions and houses thirty two sign written drawers, fitted with turned bun handles. The solid mahogany timber is of superior quality and the drawers largely retain their original sign written labels, (the lower left side drawer is a later re-placement, as are a few of the turned bun handles). Otherwise this example is in exemplary condition. It is rare to find early fitments of this type in such a pure and genuine state, particularly retaining the original painted labels. This example is of superior quality construction and materials which have developed a lovely rich lustrous surface and deep “plummy” colour.
