Provenance: In exemplary as found original condition, with deep richly patinated surface, this hand carved love token is of the highest quality. The Lion form handle has delightful details with the tail wrapping around underneath the belly of the lion, the front paws holding a ball, the tongue visible in the mouth and the peg on top of the head which may originally have supported a crown. The stylised acanthus is executed by a master carver in the Gudbransdal tradition and includes a beaded framing as a boarder. This board is substantial in length and overall scale and is the finest quality in the Norske Folk Art Tradition.
