Wine Flagon with Glaze Tear Drop

Hand thrown glazed stoneware

Europe c. 1880

9” high
4” in diameter

Condition: Decorated by wonderful accident, this early wine flagon benefits from the appeal of the little tadpoles of glaze that dripped onto it during the firing process, creating an idiosyncratic and unique feature. Boldly formed and hand thrown in traditional shape, it has a noble rustic character which is greatly enhanced by this chance accident during its creation.
