One of a Pair - This Panel Depicting a Lady in Rural Idylls, The Other Panel Depicting A Shepherd Silk Worked With Coloured Threads Retaining Wonderful Fresh Colours
English c. 1700
8 ½” high x 10” wide
Ref: 6601
Two delightful early needlework panels, dating from the late C17th/early C18th they retain exceptional bold colouring to the silk threads and must have spent much of their lives tucked away in a chest without daylight. Both depict charming pastoral scenes with engaging details of natural history including sheep, a dog, insects, a bird and stylised foliage surrounding the figures. Now housed in Georgian wedge section frames and professionally backed on old homespun linen, these are both rare and charming little gems of early British needlework.
