Delightful Primitive Adjustable Music Stand

Hand Wrought and Cut Sheet Metal
English, c1840

Raised on a wonderfully primitive tripod base of which no two feet are the same, this blacksmith made music stand also has a rudimentary adjustable mechanism, with a thumb screw fixing. The metal is weathered and oxidised and has developed a great texture and surface. Presumably made as a special order or present, by a blacksmith more accustomed to making and working horseshoes, this engagingly sculptural and primitive piece exemplifies the raw spirit and nature of Folk Art. In untouched original “as found” condition.

English c. 1840
