American c. 1900

6.5” high x 15.5” wide x 5.5” deep

Provenance: Private Collection, Warwickshire.

Alert and with a sense of movement, this well carved and sensitively painted duck has a delightful naturalistic quality. The painted decoration on its back has been scratched with lines to delineate plumage, which in combination with the observed set of the tail and bright alert head and eyes lend this primitive sculpture a particularly engaging character.
