A remarkable pair of hand wrought metal chairs of stylized Klysmos type dating from the early nineteenth century. Hand wrought metal chairs of sophisticated design are extraordinarily rare and are a tour de force of the metalworkers art. These chairs have wonderful detailing to the toes, form of legs and scrolled terminals to the back rest, which along with the decorative X form back and fine original painted decoration help define them as works of great quality. These most unusual hand wrought metal chairs are in as found original condition showing evidence of age and wear commensurate with age and function. By repute they originally formed part of a set of six chairs, one of which bore a printed label to the underside reading “ Perin’s Ltd. Pasadena”. Research has not yet revealed whether Perin’s Ltd were a manufacturer, retailer or storage company, but it associates these chairs with the USA and in the meantime their country of origin remains uncertain, whilst their integrity, rarity, style and quality are beyond doubt.
