"The Emperor" is a prize winning Clydesdale Stallion, which was owned by Samuel Clark, a farmer from Renfrewshire near Glasgow. Mr Clark was reported in various national newspapers, having achieved significant and multiple successes at agricultural shows around Scotland .

Known for their strength, size, and beautiful feathered legs, Clydesdales were perfect for farm work and parades, and were seen as a symbol of power and grace.

Agricultural Societies were highly acclaimed and instrumental in promoting agricultural advancements. By awarding the best livestock, recognizing new farming discoveries, and encouraging improved tools, they aimed to enhance farming practices.

We confidently attribute our portrait to Alexander Archer, who was a Century 19th Scottish Animal Portrait Artist from Edinburgh (1800-1854)
