Figure Carved Cheese Press

Figure Carved Cheese Press
Stone and Wrought Iron
Scottish, c.1800

46" high x 24" wide x 15 ½" deep

Provenance: Bankfoot, Perthshire

Scottish cheese presses carved with inscriptions and dates are known, however naïve figure carved details of this example are seemingly unique. There is though, an ancient vernacular tradition in Scotland of decorative and figure carved headstones that often share the appealing folk art character of this unusual press.
