Magnificent Carolean Style Scroll Wing Armchair

This magnificent, almost theatrical, high back armchair was designed and created in the Carolean style of the third quarter of the C17th. Dating from C1880-1900, it has a high arched cresting, above the two dramatically scrolled wings, outswept scroll arms, turned legs and stretchers, joined by an arched and carved front carved stretcher and finely detailed carved ”Braganza” feet. The chair is in genuine ”as found” English Country House condition, with aged velvet damask and fringed upholstery and a later upholstered seat cushion. This is a rare and spectacular model of impressive scale and great comfort. A rare and stylish example.
