Delightful Early Rushlight Nip and Candleholder

Raised on A Pyramidal Carved Oak Base with Moulded Details
Hand Wrought Iron Metal and Oak

English or Welsh c. 1780

10” high x 6” wide x 5.5” deep

Ref: 37/42

A most unusual form, this early lighting device was made to serve as a rushlight nip and candleholder. The angular counterweight arm tour inmates in candle socket with drip pan below. The pyramid form base benefits from interesting moulded and carved details and retains a great original surface. Rushlights with ordinal wooden bases are rarer than all metal examples and this model is unique in form form our experience. A real collectors item with excellent provenance.
