Early Naive Sailor Work Ship Picture

Depicting a Three Masted Ship Under Full Sail with Smaller Attendant Steam Ship
Embroidered Couloured Wools and Cotton on Linen

English c. 1860

18.5” high x 27” wide

Ref: 34/42

A fine and well defined naive image of a three mast ship, flying the Red Ensign and depicted on a flat calm sea against a pale cloudless sky. There is a lovely confident execution to this composition and it is in excellent untouched condition, retaining its original moulded and painted frame. A lovely example from the British Maritime Folk Art Tradition.
