A bold classic example of a mid eighteenth century serving dresser, raised on elegant and well formed hand carved cabriole front legs. The three frieze drawers have integral scratch carved beaded edges and retain the original brass swan neck handles and oval escutcheons. The front apron has delightful Cupid’s Bow shaped details to the centre and shaped corner spandrels at each end, the return aprons are also similarly shaped. Constructed from solid English oak, this example has a well burnished original surface and deep rich colour. There is much evidence of age and use and it bears scars and bruises commensurate with age and function, but generally this example is in fine original condition. Serving Dressers of this type are wonderfully functional in contemporary interiors and work as Consoles as well as behind Sofas and Settles. This piece has great proportions and is conveniently shallow whilst also being quietly elegant and functional.
