Small Charles II Panelled Chest

With Fine Lunette Carved Frieze and Twin Panel Top
Solid Richly Patinated and Burnished Oak

English c. 1670

29” high x 39” wide x 18” deep

Ref: 33/10

An unusually small and well drawn early panelled chest, this well proportioned piece boasts an rich original nutty colour and untouched patina. The twin panelled lid retains the original hinges and hasp and mirrors the form of the twin panelled front. All the styles are channel moulded and the frieze finely carved with lunettes and stylised floral details and retains the original lock plate. Small chests or coffers of this type have always been rare and sought after and it is now most unusual to find early chests still retaining the full height of the legs and in such fine original overall condition
