"Deloitte tell clients: buy antiques now"
[Antiques Trade Gazette, 17 August 2009]
Ian Stewart, the chief economist at Deloitte, consulted the data produced annually by the Antique Collector's Club (ACC) and issued an August statement to clients on the findings. In summary, Mr Stewart found that the "credit crisis could be supportive of antique furniture prices", that "the credit crunch has highlighted the need for investors to put their money into a range of assets. Last year all the major assets - equities, property, commodities - fell. Antiques are illiquid and they generally avoid the big swings seen in financial markets". Finally, "for those who worry about the long-term effects of governments printing money, antique furniture offers a hedge against future inflation".

We are delighted to have won this prestigious award for the seventh time.
New Developments
Rivière Vintage
This new section of our site reflects an exciting development of our Rivière label. The pieces we are sourcing for Rivière Vintage were largely made by skilled specialist craftsmen, from fine materials and for a luxury market. They are evocative of a bygone era, a time less hurried when craftsmanship was respected and rituals observed. We have long been inspired by the feel and admired the quality of the 'tackle', 'kit' and accessories related to traditional country pursuits, field sports, picnicking and associated life style, both functional and luxurious.
We love the touch and smell of well patinated leather, the weight and colour of old brass implements and fittings, the smooth worn surface and sheen of well used silver, the faded glory and stitching of old canvas, the wear and burnished surface of wood, bone and horn, in fact much the same qualities we enjoy in objects of antique Folk Art.
There will be pieces related to field sports and fly fishing in particular as well as occasional nostalgia inspiring accessories related to drinking wine and spirits, smoking (particularly cigars), golf, playing cards and occasional small treats from traditional country house studies, libraries, cellars and gun rooms.
Josyane is also planning to offer unusual and individually selected pieces of 'alternative' jewellery. Chunky, exciting even slightly 'quirky' pieces from materials such as amber, coral, ivory and turquoise. There will be no boundaries controlling the age, geographical or cultural origin of these pieces. Simply pieces she likes and admires for their form, character, material and composition. She plans to offer a small collection of European Vintage Costume and 'ethnic' jewellery including some examples of Native American Indian, African and Asian origin.
Every piece we source for Rivière Vintage will be individually selected by us and subject to the same scrutiny as pieces for Robert Young Antiques. However the flavour will be a little different and generally they will be small and portable, vintage but not necessarily antique and always the sort of thing we would love to own ourselves.
We are currently building up our first collection for Rivière Vintage and will upload the images and descriptions as they are prepared and ready - please contact us if you would like to be kept updated of this collection.
