Rivière

Rivière is the specialist family run Interior Design Consultancy that grew out of Robert Young Antiques. The consultancy began in 1983 with two private residential projects in London who commissioned Robert and Josyane to help decorate and style their homes incorporating pieces of Antique Furniture and Works of Art that they had largely sourced through Robert Young Antiques.

Robert and Josyane's consultancy work has a quirky originality. Self taught and guided by instinct and eye, their schemes nonetheless draw inspiration from the historical precedents learned during their classical training. Their work is typified by strong sensitivity for colour and texture and an admiration for traditional materials and techniques, flavoured with contemporary accents. Remaining loyal to their principles of handling every project personally, they believe it is best to manage no more than three commissions concurrently.

We continue to enjoy working with traditional and historic interiors, but in recent years, Rivière have also been working on a wider variety of commissions, nationally and internationally. The underlying flavour remains the same, whilst we have developed a more eclectic touch and successfully created a signature style which juxtaposes sculptural antique pieces with contemporary architecture, finishes and materials.

Current and recent projects include an exciting "New Build" Lakeside House near Loosdrecht outside Amsterdam, a substantial Grade 2 listed Charles II period Townhouse in Highgate, a small Hunting Lodge in Belgium, the development of two adjacent Mews Houses in Knightsbridge into a single Contemporary Home and a large Family House in Notting Hill. Our portfolio of completed projects includes an important listed Manor House in the Cotswolds, a Fashionable Oriental Fusion Restaurant in the New King's Road, a Beach House in New Zealand, a Barn Conversion in Warwickshire, a substantial Amsterdam Townhouse, a large Penthouse Apartment in San Francisco, an 18th Century Tavern in West Sussex, a Folk Art Collectors Dower House in Northamptonshire, a delightful Regency Period terraced house in Pimlico, a Georgian House in Kensington, a modern Apartment on the Cote d'Azur overlooking the Mediteranean, two rural Provençale farmhouses and various smaller and incidental commissions in the UK.

Rivière received wide international coverage and acclaim for their contribution to the British Interior Design Exhibitions in 1990 and 1991 and recent examples of their work have been published in the World of Interiors, 'Influential Styles from Baroque to Bauhaus and Beyond' by Judith Miller, 'Country Kitchens' by Jocasta Innes and James Merrell, the London Evening Standard Home Section, the Telegraph Magazine, 'English Cottage Interiors' by Hugh Lander and Peter Rauter, 'The Victorian House Book' by Robin Guild, 'Nursery Style' by Annie Sloan and Felicity Bryan, 'Period Kitchen' by Judith Miller, and a range of Design Journals, periodicals, and reference books.

Josyane's exhibitions, installations and styling have consistently won prestigious awards for best stand at international art and antique shows including the Fine art and antiques fair at Olympia in 2009, 2007, 2006 and 2005.
