Masterpiece London 2019

We are excited to be counting down towards installing our exhibition at Masterpiece London 2019, for the tenth consecutive year. We will be presenting recent acquisitions including selected works of British and European Folk Art together with unique pieces of vernacular furniture.

Bringing together 150 of the world’s top galleries in the heart of London, Masterpiece has established itself as one of the world’s leading international art ,design and antique fairs. Unlike old fashioned and traditional antique shows, Masterpiece has no boundaries in terms of dateline, medium or scale, it simply sets out to celebrate excellence.

We have sourced and selected some exceptional pieces to show at the 2019 staging, which share certain unique, often indefinable, qualities that distinguish them and drew us to them. Examples include a beguilingly graphic carved limestone sculpture of a reclining lion; a delightfully risqué, life-size, hand carved and painted folk art fairground sculpture of an angel; a rare early “Turk’s Head” tobacconist’s trade sign, and an exceptional pair of primitive Georgian Windsor comb back armchairs with curved crests and broad sculpturally saddled seats.

We have some Complimentary Tickets available, so please do contact us if you would enjoy the visiting this spectacular event at the height of the London’s summer season. We look forward to seeing you there.

Rosie Reed, "The Grandmothers"

Artist's Reception at Robert Young Antiques; Friday 28th June 5pm-7pm.

"The Grandmothers" is the fourth in a series of Contemporary Collaborations at Robert Young Antiques, designed to showcase works by emerging artists, exploring relationships between historic and modern works of art.

Open 28th June – 20th July 2019 at Robert Young Antiques' Battersea Gallery, "The Grandmothers" is a unique gallery window installation created by London artist Rosie Reed deriving inspiration from a selection of antique and vintage Folk Art Toys from the Robert Young Collection.

Reed explains: “An antique toy denies its present holder so much of its adventure. It conceals the importance it had to the hands that originally held it, the games that it played protagonist to and the imaginary worlds that it once discovered and explored.”

“The Grandmothers” seeks to explore the notion of opening up the attic boxes that store away these childhood notions of play and dreamed up worlds.”

The Contemporary Collaborations series is curated by RCA Graduate Erin Hughes who was the first artist to create a collaborative installation with Robert Young in 2017.

RYA Contemporary Collaborations has since grown in significance and popularity and the gallery now receives applications from a wide range of artists keen to participate in the initiative.

We would like to thank Sambrook's, celebrated local Battersea craft brewery, for their generous sponsorship of this cultural initiative.
