Scrapbook

A casual page, sketching a little news, some views and the odd recommendations.

In the course of our travels we tend to visit and discover exhibitions, galleries, hotels, restaurants, craftspeople, specialist shops or services, produce growers, wines and the occasional play or concert. It is our intention to share our experiences of some of these, and to identify the qualities that we feel make them enjoyable, noteworthy or inspirational.
Alongside these, we will add some notes about recent acquisitions, our forthcoming catalogues and fairs and 'antiques market news'.

We showed a wide and intriguing variety of pieces from the Country Vernacular and Folk Art Traditions of Europe. We carefully select individual pieces for their form, surface, rarity and charm. The exhibition included engaging naive paintings; including a rare Townscape of Henley in Arden, a magnificent boat portrait by De Clerck, and a massive Belgian landscape of The Mother House in Champion. Furniture included a seventeenth century chest decorated with two naive chickens and Windsor stick and plank constructed chairs. One of the highlights was a massive enamelled clock face from France.
