Rivière is the small family run Interior Design Consultancy that originally grew out of Robert Young Antiques. Quietly launched in 1983, after being seduced into working on two small residential projects in London, by clients of the antiques business who had been beguiled and inspired by the ambience, presentation and attention to detail of their exhibitions. From these modest beginnings and entirely through word of mouth, Rivière has grown remarkably successful and the Partners now have over twenty years of valuable experience behind them.

Robert and Josyane’s consultancy work has a quirky originality. Self taught and guided by instinct and eye, their schemes nonetheless draw inspiration from the historical precedents learned during their classical training. Their work is typified by strong sensitivity for colour and texture and an admiration for traditional materials and techniques, flavoured with contemporary accents. Remaining loyal to their principles of handling every project personally, no more than three commissions are run concurrently.

Over recent years, Rivière has worked on a wide variety of projects, both nationally and internationally. The underlying flavour remains the same but a new, younger clientèle has emerged and Rivière has developed a sharper contemporary edge to several of their projects.

In 1990 and 1991, Rivière received wide acclaim for their contribution to the British Interior Design Exhibitions and examples of their work, including details from the Battersea Gallery and the Young’s family home have been widely featured in a range of design journals, periodicals and reference books. Ongoing and completed projects include: a beach house in New Zealand, a barn conversion in Warwickshire, an Amsterdam townhouse, a San Francisco apartment, a historic 18th Century tavern in Sussex, a Northamptonshire Dower House, a Belgravia Regency terraced house, a Georgian house in Kensington and a wide variety of Provencale and London homes.
