A most unusual hand carved cabriole legged stool from the British vernacular tradition. Comprehensively carved in a bold folk art manner with stylised acanthus, foliate and floral motifs and housing the probably original gross point needlework upholstered seat cover. This provincial piece is constructed from solid elm and has acquired a wonderful crusty “crocodile” surface patination and is in untouched “as found” condition. An unusually sculptural and functional piece.
